I learned the Spiritual Practice of Immanuel Journaling and through communicating with Him in this way, I heard my Father's heart for me. “The Lord used a shift in life seasons - empty nest, retirement, and aging parents - to awaken my attention to longings deep within. Desires for deeper connections came to the surface, yet my efforts to produce them were unfruitful. I longed to give genuine love and compassion in some painful relationships, yet anger, resentment, and frustration often simmered and no amount of Bible study, prayer or service seemed to bring about the heart change I longed for. I began the Journey Further Ministries (JFM) Soul Discipleship program and something deep within me stirred. I sensed God intended this for me. This soul discipleship program was unlike any Bible study or small group I had ever encountered. JFM provided an opportunity for a safe and a supportive environment allowing me to look back on segments of my life story that needed the Lord's healing touch. Jesus gently led me to visit some broken places of my past, to unpack and entrust Him with some heavy baggage handicapping my present life. He lovingly tended to unhealed wounds, festering beneath the surface of my dutifully obedient exterior. Without pushing or prying, the ladies in my group warmly and empathetically held the tender places of my story, surrounding me with grace, love and truth. My time in the program began a process of deep transformation. Deeper intimacy with God and deeper security from which to cultivate closeness in relationships paves the path ahead. The weight of shame and fear dissipated as I received grace from Jesus and trusted friends. My heart is coming alive."
